Email remains one of the most effective ways to communicate with your audience. But getting permission to send those emails can be a challenge. Fortunately for businesses with an online presence, it’s now easier for your Gmail-using followers to sign up for your email list.
How Gmail is Making Email Opt-Ins Easier
The other day, I signed up for an email list to be notified when a certain product is available. The company is using MailChimp as their email service provider, and as reputable email service providers do, they sent a confirmation email (a.k.a, a double opt-in).
Normally you would have to open the email and click the link to confirm your subscription.
But this time it was different.
One-Click Confirmation
As I opened my inbox, I noticed on the right side of the screen, next to the date, there was a button labeled “Confirm Subscription.”
To confirm my subscription, all I had to do was click the button, and Google sent the confirmation for me.
I didn’t even have to visit the site.
I’m not sure yet what other providers (if any) this works with, but I would expect that this functionality would be rolled out to almost everyone in the near future.
So What?
By making it easier for your readers to confirm their subscription, hopefully this will increase your subscriber rate. I don’t see how it could hurt.
